Campaign Story

Our names are Arlo & Lux. We have been together for four years, and we are deeply grateful for the life we have built. We feel incredibly safe and loved in our relationship, and look forward to sharing that love with our future children. From the moment we met, we felt a spark that has continued to grow each day. We knew early on in our relationship that we wanted to grow our family, and have taken the steps to foster a strong foundation, grounded in love, patience, laughter, and growth.

We live in Tacoma, Washington, a city that we love wholeheartedly and feel proud to call home. With an abundance of events and activities for families, we are happily engaged with our community. As a queer couple, we feel safe and supported in Tacoma, a city that values diversity and belonging. We are surrounded by many other young queer families and are welcomed into affirming spaces across the city. We cherish our house and yard that we share with our dogs Appa and Raava, and our cats Evie and Nova. We enjoy home improvement projects and rearranging our space for comfort and creativity. When we are all cuddled in a pile together, we frequently talk about how wonderful it will be to have our babies with us, and how much our animals will love them too. We feel deeply nourished and fulfilled by our home.

Lux is a passionate, kind, deep thinking nature lover whose favorite things to do are hike, spend quality time with family, and participate in the arts whether it be going to shows, museums, plays, or creating something of their own. As a barista at a specialty coffee shop and micro roastery, Lux is connected to their community on a daily basis, and has cultivated meaningful friendships. They love to read, play ukulele, run, swim, bike, cook, and do yoga, and they can’t wait to share these activities with their future children. They read Tarot as a way to help people get in touch with their inner spark and return to themselves to focus on what is most aligned with each individual’s best path. They are also a certified Reiki practitioner and are in the process of completing their meditation teacher certification. They hope to use their skills to help guide their kids to their most fulfilling path, create space to regulate themselves with mindfulness, and inspire them to shine their unique light into the world.

Arlo is a lifelong learner, and someone who believes deeply in the power of empathy to change the world. His work as a producer in public media is rooted in the idea that journalism and thoughtful storytelling can offer clarity, connection, and hope in a confusing and often isolating world. He is dedicated to public media’s mission to educate, engage, and serve communities with integrity, and believes that access to truth and understanding is a public good. Outside of work, Arlo is most alive when he’s learning something new — whether diving into a podcast, traveling to new places, refining a creative project, playing games, or dreaming up future possibilities. Curiosity is central to how Arlo moves through the world. He hopes to provide an enriching environment for his future children, nurturing their own curiosity, protecting wonder, and helping them feel both grounded and free.

We both believe in the power of storytelling. As humans, stories help us make sense of our lives, define our moral compass, and connect us to each other. Lux grew up near Orlando for most of their childhood, so Disney holds a big place in their heart, and the stories and lessons they grew up with have shaped their values. As a Disney family, we both find inspiration and connection to the themes of hope, believing in your dreams no matter what, dedicated hard work, compassion for all beings, inherent belonging, and whimsy that heals the heart. As we look to the future, we imagine seeing the wonder and excitement in our children’s eyes when we vacation in Disneyland together.
We value incorporating joy and adventure into our lives and know that will be an integral part of our parenthood. We plan to introduce our children to enriching experiences such as traveling to other countries, exploring state and national parks, participating in community outreach, and participating in any extra curricular activities that spark their creativity and connection to others. When we are home, we look forward to reading books, listening to music, and watching movies together, to help them build an understanding of their world, develop strong moral convictions, and connect to the magic all around us.

The past two years of our fertility journey has definitely been difficult at times to endure. We have experienced four failed IUIs that required monitoring and meds. Our doctor recommended IVF at that point, and that is what we are seeking funding for. As a couple, we have undergone many hardships, including grieving the loss of multiple loved ones, dealing with large repairs on our home, addressing the issue of three cars dying on us in four years due to unforeseen mechanical issues, and the precarious state of the world that has been unkind to so many of us. Having already dealt with so many challenging circumstances together, we know that we can handle this journey with patience and perseverance, and we are extremely hopeful for the future. With each obstacle that arises we have chosen to hold each other and grow together every step of the way, and we are more resilient than ever.

Together, we are rooted in a shared commitment to unconditional love, exploration, compassion, and growth. We are incredibly excited to move into this next part of our journey. We hope to raise children who are curious about the world, gentle with others, and confident in who they are. Our dream of becoming parents is an extension of our values.
